An Airport Operations Center ( APOC ) is a nerve center where the key players in the airport are brought together in the same physical or virtual location: airlines, infrastructure managers, air navigation services, security, handlers , etc.
Its objective: to share a unique vision of the situation in real time and coordinate operational decisions.
This is now a strong trend as air transport has to manage increasing complexity:
Traffic fluctuations.
The timing of rotations.
Climatic events.
Social movements and impacts.
Technical hazards.
New passenger expectations (fluidity, personalization).
...
In this context, a silo model is no longer sufficient. APOC therefore responds to this need by providing:
Instant collaboration between actors,
Increased responsiveness to disruptions,
Better anticipation thanks to data and predictive tools,
And ultimately a more seamless passenger experience.
For that
, the implementation of APOC is based on several innovations:
Real-time data sharing (IoT, AODB, RMS, BRS, etc.),
Simulation and prediction tools (AI, A-CDM, etc.),
Collaborative interfaces accessible to all stakeholders,
Common governance to align processes and responsibilities.
Adopting an APOC means moving from a reactive logic to a proactive and collaborative logic. It means transforming the airport into an agile, interconnected and passenger-oriented ecosystem, hence its increasing adoption in international hubs and, gradually, in mid-sized airports.
Conclusion: APOC is not a fad, but a structural trend . It is the new operational standard , essential to absorb the complexity of 21st-century air transport.
